2회 애스컴블루스페스티벌을 마치고, 참여한 블루스밴드팀과 간단한 뒷풀이 자리에서 밴드 한분이 물었다.
물음이 또렷하게 기억나지 않았지만, 대답은 이랬다. “전투하는 심정으로 행사를 준비했습니다” 라고.
애스컴은 부평을 기억하는 미군기지 이름이다. 사실 부평지역의 한 장소로서 애스컴을 자리잡게 하고 싶었다. 그리고 블루스 리듬을 한국에 처음 미8군 오디션을 통과한 한국 청년 뮤지션들이 악보 없이 귀로 듣고 매일 밤마다 미군기지 영내 클럽에서 낯선 리듬을 연주하기 위해 낮에 잠시 밴드들은 옹기종기 모여서 연습에 연습을 했다.
6개월 뒤에 어김없이 다가오는 미8군 오디션에 오디션 통과자들도 예외없이 심사를 받아야 밴드들에게 꿈의 무대 미군클럽에서 연주할 기회가 주어지기 때문이다. 그래서 한국에 블루스와 스윙, 재즈 리듬을 가장 먼저 받아내고 전파한 곳이 부평이라는 역사적 사실에 기반해서 페스티벌 이름에 블루스를 넣었다.
애스컴블루스페스티벌에 부평지역 역사문화를 기반으로 명명된 것이다.
이런 포지션이 지역문화를 입에 담은 사람들이 갖추어야 할 문화 윤리성이다. 그런데 부평에서 지역문화를 육성하라고 빚을 내서 만든 재단은 부평지역 문화를 내팽켜치고 화려할 것 같은 서울에서 늘 하는 문화 시스템을 부평 구민들이 낸 세금으로 퍼주고 있는데도 누가 하나 비판의 목소리를 내지 않는다.
뭐 깊은 뜻이 있겠지라면서 애써 지역문화을 어떻게 접근해야 하는지도 고민하지 않음을 덮으려고 한다. 그러면서 부평 문화는 이른바 서울 컴플렉스에 걸린 지역에서 큰 소리치는 사람들을 이용해서 서울에서 내려와 부평 어느 골목길 이름 하나 제대로 알지도 모르고, 알려고도 하지 않는 문화 거간꾼들에게 농락을 당하고 있는 것이다. 부평 문화는 계속 수렁에 빠져들고 있다. 문화도시 구호만 넘쳐나고 있을 뿐이다.
그저 안타깝고 답답하다.

In addition, young Korean musicians who passed the US 8th Army audition for the first time in Korea listened to them without sheet music, and each night the bands gathered together to practice an unfamiliar rhythm every night at the U.S. military base’s premises.
This is because the bands must be judged without exception in the 8th Army audition, which comes unavoidably after 6 months, so that the bands are given the opportunity to play at the US Army Club of Dream Stage. So, based on the historical fact that Bupyeong was the first place to receive and spread blues, swing, and jazz rhythms in Korea, blues was added to the festival name.
It was named based on the history and culture of the Bupyeong region at the Ascom Blues Festival.
This position is the cultural ethics that people with local culture should have. However, the foundation, which was created by debt to foster local culture in Bupyeong, exaggerates the culture of the Bupyeong region and spreads the culture system that seems to be colorful in Seoul with the tax paid by the residents of Bupyeong, but no one voices criticism.
I try to cover up not worrying about how to approach the local culture by saying that it has a deep meaning. At the same time, Bupyeong culture uses people who shout out loud in the so-called Seoul complex to come down from Seoul and are being jossed by cultural giants who do not know the name of any alleyway in Bupyeong and do not even try to know it. The Bupyeong culture continues to fall into a bog. Only the slogan of the cultural city is overflowing.
It is just sad and frustrating.
